Hosting and data
Faden IP Box runs in two ways: hosted by us, or by you in Docker. The difference is who stores the data and who is responsible for it.
It is the same app and the same licence. You choose who runs the server.
Two options
You can use the app hosted by us, or run it yourself in Docker.
- Hosted by us: you work in the browser. The server, updates and backups are on our side.
- Hosted by you: you run the app in Docker, on your own server or in the cloud. We provide the image and the installer.
When we host
Your clients' personal and financial data is stored on our infrastructure. We hold it and are responsible for storing it.
The terms are set in the offer and the contract.
When you host
The data stays with you. You have full control and full responsibility: for the server, security, backups and compliance with data protection rules.
The installation is a package with Docker and a PostgreSQL database. The ./ipbox.sh install script creates an .env file with unique secrets and starts the app. Keep .env private and keep a separate copy.
- The default address is
http://localhost:8087. For users, HTTPS behind a web proxy is recommended. - The first administrator account takes its details from
.env. Change the initial password. - Saving in the app is enabled by a licence installed in the License tab of the admin panel (see License).
Backups and updates
When we host, we handle backups and updates. When you host, they are your responsibility.
The app can back up the database and attachments. The administrator manages this in Backups. Treat the archives like the database itself.
Documentation and support
This documentation is the main source of help. Technical support is also possible, agreed and priced separately.
The administrator can prepare diagnostic data in Troubleshooting & support. The licence depends on the package from the price list and is the same in both options.
